Project Overview
For my VFX project, I am planning to make a magic Fight scene in Blender using the same kind of style that Streetfighter, Dead or alive & Tekken use, a 1 on 1 fight between two characters that results in one of them dying and the other being the victor.
The 1 – 2 minute animation will contain 4-6 Visual effects consisting mostly of magic, though if you count the magic circles I will make, it would be more like 8-10+ visual effects that I will be making.
Most of the VFX I plan to make will be simple Magic circles that will contain simple shapes and writing, I plan to use Latin as the language of my magic so it looks magical enough without having to create a whole new language.
Since I’m focusing on the VFX I will find characters on Mixamo (Mixamo, 2022) and use their free library of animations to animate the entire thing, other than the characters and animations I will be making certain assets for this other than the magic & effects such as any weapons, Staves, Wands, Amulets, Background & environment assets.
Influences
My fight sequence will focus on the magic spells being used by my two characters and these spells will be heavily influenced by one of my favourite animes called Overlord, In this anime a lot of the time you can tell the strength of the spell by how many magic circles appear or by the complexity of the circles being used, however, this is not always true it’s usually the more dramatic spells that use this method.
Magic circles are not always needed to determine the strength of a spell since if it’s done right a simple sparking/arcing of lightning between a character’s hands can become imposing.
Another example to show strength without magic circles is to show the action more visually like this spell that crushes the heard of an opponent instead of the character just closing his hand with nothing in it, instead add in the heart and actually see it being crushed to make it look more impressive.
