In this final year, we have a very important module that will span the entirety of the school year, so the work that is put into this module should reflect the amount of time it will take to complete, refine and hand in the assignments associated with the module but before any of that we had to pick a supervisor that would back & work with us in creating our idea.
The supervisor I picked specializes in audio but was one of the only supervisors that offered Animation as one of the projects, so it was a win-win decision in the end because I want to work on learning some audio as well.
I decided to make two animations in a comparison-type style for the FMP, one of them will be derived from a script I wrote when I was in year 8, The other will be a brand new script that I will write this year, but both of them will be heavily Influanced from anime.
The point of the project is to show how much I have improved over these many years, & it does not sound complicated however I will need to research and understand how a year 8 student would create a project, as well as pull from my own memory to get into that kind of mindset.
Both animations will be created with a 3D style using programs such as Blender, substance painter & Z-brush, I plan to use anime as a reference point & there are a lot of 3D animes such as Land of the Lustrous (Houseki no Kuni) but not every one of them has been done very well, To avoid this whole fiasco of having bad looking 3D I will not be using Anime type textures.
Year 8 Animation
The original script was written back in Year 8 & I don’t plan on changing the contents however I will edit it to be slightly more coherent & shorter, The script was heavily influenced by anime when I wrote it & is my main inspiration for the creation of it.
This script focuses on a romance setting as far as I can tell from rereading it, however as the script stands now it’s like a fever dream, and most of it makes barely any sense because of the maturity and enthusiasm I had at the time of writing it was low, with that in mind I will be trying to replicate that when making it into an animation.
The main anime’s that I will use as inspiration are the ones that I watched first back in 2013, these are Sekirei, D.Gray Man & Dance in the vampire bund they are the first three I remember watching and only one of them I remember as bad.
Most of the important things I will use in this animation will be found assets mostly because I think students in year 8 would not be creating assets to that degree and would be told to find assets to use in the creation of any animation.
University Year 3 Animation
I will create a brand new original script & animation with all the knowledge and skills I have learned over the years which will culminate in the cornerstone piece for my portfolio, The newly created story will be written from scratch with a Fantasy/Isekai genre & be heavily influenced by games and anime.
I will not be recreating the script from Year 8 contrary to what people may think I am doing in this project, the comparison will be about how my skills have changed over the years not about how I can recreate something I wrote In the past, I will come up with a few ideas on what I could do for this animation in a future post.
Audio Style
I want to try and obtain or create as realistic sound effects as possible, however, a lot of the sounds do not exist in reality and therefore I will need to take inspiration from existing sources such as games, movies/Tv and Anime.
When it comes to music I want to try and get ahold of a composer who will help me create it, I’m not 100% certain about the style of music as of yet, but I know I will need Cinematic & battle music, This will be for the University Year 3 animation only the other animation I will be finding music that will work.
I want to use some talented voice actors in the university year 3 animation, which will require contacting the drama department at my university and asking if anyone would be interested in auditioning for my animation, I might create an A4 poster which could be printed out and placed on the drama departments poster board.
