Creating A Mug

So when I received this assignment to make a mug knowing that I had to relearn how to use MAYA and how much of a struggle that would be I decided to make a Mug both in Blender and MAYA mainly because I knew I could make one in blender fully textured in just a few minutes.

Making the mug in MAYA was very easy all I did was create a cylinder, delete the top face, add a solidify modifier, give it some thickness, add a few loop cuts, extrude the start of a handle and use the spin tool to create the handle itself adding in textures afterwards was just icing on my Mug I guess.

Creating the mug In MAYA was alot harder I knew I wanted to do it myself without the aid of the powerpoint and just going from knowledge I possessed myself already IE. the shapes and techniques to make the mug.

I did struggle with the camera movements and the controls and had a good old complain at it all but in the end I made a mug that’s somewhat useable and to make the mug without modifiers was a little confusing but here’s what I did first I made a cylinder since that’s the closest shape to a mug then I removed the top face and duplicated the rest of the cylinder and scaled it down making sure to align the top set of edges to the same Hight as the first cylinder and then I flipped all the normals before combining and bridging the gap that was left then I added in a few loop cuts to start extruding the handle out instead of making a torus to merge into the handle I then extruded out a few times before extruding down and up to merge/bridge it in the middle then I adjusted the faces to make them handle shape and called it a day since I have no memory of materials/textures in MAYA at all.
