Abalon Tweeks

So I decided to test abalon’s rig capability on Mixamo.com (Mixamo, 2022) now this is normally used for organic rigs however it does not stop me from testing my robot design and seeing how it moves to give me an understanding of how I am going to make it move later on and almost instantaneity I have noticed that the torso has no way of rotating however I can maybe fix this if I cut Abalon’s torso in half and add in a ball bearing type joint for simple rotating I downloaded some of the preset animations as an example

So ive been working on learning Multiple Uv’s, UDIMS, and figuring out exporting stuff I won’t go into detail on every dumb thing I’ve done to try and figure it all out and learn about all this stuff because it’s long and extensive But All that does not matter since I wildly overcomplicated the problem when it had a simple solution Giving areas of my model Materials in Blender then exporting the model with said materials makes it so those areas are grouped when I import it into Substance painter therefore it gets its own material sets and Uv’s I’m sometimes an idiot but at least I learn along the way.

To retexture abalon I’m going to brighten the original colors up so that you can see much more detail However this is not all that I am going to do with the retexturing When I originally did it I did not have these extra joints but I also did not texture it the best I could Since I did not know what I was doing but with the new retexturing I’m going to make it geared more towards what my character brief is about I’m also going to do some other color variants mostly stealth colors so I’m going to have to look up some references.

To redo the texturing I started with a large blast to the face almost as if the model had been hit by a shotgun blast I rather liked the look of this and then just added some glassy light look to the eyes and a carbon fiber coating over the metal and I liked this look so I applied it to all the metal pieces except for things like springs.

I don’t want to add too much detail in the textures for each section of the body otherwise It might ruin what I have designed and be overpowering as for the model I did have a couple issues the lower eyes would not let me paint there is a massive bug with the Uv/topology in that area and it was too late to fix.

For the upper torso I know I wanted to add a rocket impact on the chest and have it look as if the metal had warped/melted as well as impact sites from high caliber bullets these will appear all over the model but these are the first that I created.

Grouped Sections together then gave them a material before importing into Substance and this created a much cleaner Uv set and is the actual way to make a model like this the way i originally did it was the wrong way.

Thoughts On More Textures

So since textures can be added at any time I am going to keep slowly working on them before I render the final animations that I need to render this way I can have amazing textures that really fit my model and I can make a few designs rather than stress about making the textures before animating so this is as far as I am going to go for this post.

A lot of the stealth armor is mostly black with some red highlights here and there so my original colors were not the worst option however I think its more the execution of where I put those colors that is the main problem so I might do another one with those colors but change it up a little.

Light gray and black is another widely used color set for stealthy armor to add in some variation rather than just all black which is how most military armor even swat and that kind are all black as it is more tactical but for a model such as mine, it requires some actual color variation so I’m going to work on one or two I’m also going to do a green one as well for normal Army.

The last set of color I’m going to work on is A pure white one with some black highlights here and there something miles away from what I’m looking for just for fun.
